A Little Space To Kill

“Goodnight Dr. Reddenbacher,” Nurse Betty said as she fumbled for the keys to lock
the office. “Goodnight,” Dr. Redderbacher said back to the nurse, “And thanks for
opening up early tomorrow morning, I really need that extra time for finishing my
research paper.” As Betty turns the key, she feels a cold chill over her right shoulder. She
quickly turns to see who’s there. There’s nothing. She scurried to her car and quickly
sped off, leaving Dr. Reddenbacher alone in his car in the parking lot. At the very instant
he turned the key in the ignition a bright light appeared, nearly blinding him. He was
hypnotized by the glow and couldn’t turn away. His body was paralyzed with fear as the
two shadows came towards him, he lost consciousness. As Dr. Reddenbacher awoke, he
looked around puzzled, as if he doesn’t know where he’s at. “What is this place, a
hospital of some sort?” He asked himself, “But where are all the people and what kind of
instruments are these?” He said while picking up the instruments and examining them.
He began to become acquainted with the place as they entered the room, tall creatures
with large black eyes starring him down as he crouched in anguish. The leader spoke in a
deep voice “We have learned of your great knowledge concerning the human brain. We
must have your cooperation in doing this task… you must gather beings of all sort and
bring them back to our shuttle. If you fail in doing so the earth will be destroyed.” The
doctor asked why they needed him to do this for them and they replied “ Our
Continuimtransfuctioner needs the human knowledge to use as a fuel and all of our
people we send to earth have been captured and taken to area 51 for testing. If the
continuimtransfunctioner does not receive fuel, its pin point laser reducer will shrink the
earth so small, it will no longer exist. Then our planet will be forced to become the
"earth" of the universe.”
They must have sent him back to earth because the next thing he knew he was waking
up in his car with the key still in the ignition. He thought he might have just fallen asleep
and dreamt this freak occurrence, but he knew it had to be true when he found a note in
his pocket telling him where to bring the beings once he obtained them. As the day went
on he thought of where he could find intelligent people with much knowledge to fuel the
Continuimtransfunctioner so that the world would not shrivel down to zilch. The only
people he knew were his fellow scientist. He never thought he would have to do
something like this to his friends, but then he thought, they’ll never know it was me. I’ll
get the aliens to take the knowledge from them of what happened tonight so they won’t
know what happened to them. As he sat and reflected upon how he would coax his
friends to follow him so he could take them to the ship. As soon as he thought out his
plan he left to the office frightened that the scientists would not come with him.
Throughout the day he spoke with every scientist he came in contact with. He told them
“I’m doing an analysis on the knowledge of scientist, I’ll be running tests to make a
review on my research paper. Would you like to be a part of this?” Most of them agreed
